Engineering in Motion - The Afeka Auto Club
At Afeka College of Engineering, we believe engineering has the power to change the world.
Our Auto Club allows students to apply their engineering studies through hands-on design and construction of vehicles.
Afeka's Auto Club has brought together a passionate group of students from across all disciplines, united by their love for the automotive field and their desire to apply their studies to practice by designing and constructing innovative vehicles.
In the summer of 2023, the club launched its flagship project - a fully solar-powered vehicle that students had been tirelessly working on since the club's inception. The foundation is an off-road Easy Rider-style vehicle that underwent substantial modifications to its structure, dimensions, and the integration of solar paneling across its surface.
Afeka stands out as the only academic institution in Israel offering an automotive specialization within its undergraduate mechanical engineering program. This unique focus provided the perfect environment for the Auto Club to thrive.
Over the Next Two Years...
iLumen European Solar Challenge, Belgium
After their solar-powered vehicle garnered praise from automotive industry leaders, entrepreneurs, media, and prospective partners at the EcoMotion smart transportation exhibition in Tel Aviv, Afeka's Auto Club has set its sights on an even bigger challenge. These days, the club members are designing and constructing a new solar-powered vehicle to compete in the prestigious 2026 iLumen European Solar Challenge race.
To help make their solar-powered dream a reality, the club collaborated with Ecowatt Energy, an Israeli solar company, and Trailar, a British leader in heavy vehicle solar solutions. These partnerships provided customized, high-efficiency solar panels to power the vehicle and exemplify the club's commitment to environmental values and renewable energy innovation.
The club's ambitions now extend beyond the college walls. With this innovative solar-powered platform, the students are nor embarking on a nationwide tour, visiting underserved communities and schools. Their mission is to ignite a passion for science in children, connect them with the power of technology, and inspire them to drive positive change.
Through partnerships that protect the planet and by inspiring young minds, Afeka's Vehicle Club is shaping a brighter future.
