Engineering Excellence in Extraordinary Times:

Afeka Honors the Class of 2024

Despite Unprecedented Challenges, Afeka Celebrates its Largest Graduating Class Ever at Tel Aviv's Menora Mivtachim Stadium on Monday, February 10, 2025.

This academic year posed unprecedented challenges as the country faced the "Swords of Iron" war, with a remarkable 44% of Afeka students called to military reserves or active duty, many serving extended periods. Despite these extraordinary circumstances, Afeka students, faculty and staff exhibited remarkable resilience, resulting in the largest graduating class at Afeka to date. To celebrate this success, the Menora Mivtachim stadium in Yad-Eliyahu was filled with an audience of 3,000 that included 720 Bachelor's and Master's degree engineering and science graduates, their families, Afeka faculty and staff and guests.

As Prof. Ami Moyal, President of Afeka, expressed in his address to the graduating class: "You began your journey during the COVID crisis, in isolation, in complete uncertainty, and now, after more than a year of war, pain, and loss, you are here, forming the largest graduating class in Afeka’s history. Seeing you all here fills my heart with immense pride — not just for your achievement, but for who you are as individuals.”

Among the highlights of the ceremony was a special tribute to the college's 1,700 students who served in the "Swords of Iron" War. This incredible group of students was selected to receive one of this year's "Honorary Fellow" awards. The decision to honor them in this way reflects Afeka's deep appreciation for their extraordinary dedication to defending Israel while maintaining their academic commitments.

The past year has powerfully reinforced that engineering extends far beyond technological development—it serves as a fundamental catalyst for societal progress and resilience. Recognizing this profound responsibility, all new Afeka graduates received special graduation rings at the ceremony, symbolizing their transformation from students to professional engineers. These rings, engraved with the phrase "Committed to Making a Difference," represent the personal and social responsibilities engineers undertake and serve as a tangible reminder of their obligation to pursue continuous improvement, ethical practice, and solutions that create a better future for all.
