An Engineering Experience for children of Afeka faculty and alumni

Towards the end of the 2022-2023 summer vacation, 60 children of Afeka’s faculty members and alumni visited the campus for the Engineering Experience event, initiated by Alumni Relations together with the HR department – an annual event that has become a highly anticipated tradition.

This unique event is aimed at connecting the next generation to the engineering and technology worlds of their parents and Afeka’s extensive activities, as well as to inspire kids to develop in those fields.

The subject matter and instructors for the activity were provided by the social involvement unit at Ofek – Skill Development Centers.

During the activity, children experienced a variety of special workshops: they looked through a microscope, communicated with robots, operated a light in a smart home, used a 3D pen, conducted various experiments, and flew remote controlled planes.

The activity were led by Afeka students who participate yearlong in Engineering Experience and various other social involvement initiatives. Additionally, automotive club leader Doron Levi and Engineers Without Borders Afeka chapter president Gal Hanan exposed the kids to the special projects they had developed this year.

Afeka College believes that engineering education should be available to all Israeli children, and that such exposure to technology in general and academia in particular should take place early and effectively. Thus, we hold the annual Engineering Experience event for children of faculty and alumni, in addition to ongoing activities for various children and teen groups throughout the year. The parents of the children who took part commended the activity, while the kids said that they had fun visiting Afeka and learning new things.
