Software has become a linchpin of human society in the 21st century. Thus, the demand for skilled software engineers, and the responsibilities and professional level required of them, are constantly on the rise
In the decades since software systems began to fill a key role in our lives, it has become evident that software development is unlike traditional engineering disciplines. Like them, software development requires a solid theoretical foundation combined with applied practices and skills – yet both the theory and the work practice are unique to software. Unlike traditional engineering products (bridges, engines, etc.), software – despite being a mechanical structure – behaves more like a living organism, continuously changing while in use. Software engineers are challenged not only with designing and building a system that addresses a predefined set of requirements, but building it so that it can change and update over many years
The undergraduate program in software engineering combines theoretical and academic knowledge with computer lab workshops. The program’s high point is the graduation project, in which students develop a software system through its entire lifecycle. This is a journey in which students research their technological specialization, and apply the knowledge gained throughout their studies
Software engineering alumni complete the program with a system-wide understanding and the necessary knowledge and skills for building software systems of the highest caliber. Afeka’s unique faculty possesses both theoretical knowledge in the most advanced aspects of contemporary software engineering, and hands-on experience applying those aspects in developing complex software systems within the industry
