At the root of all technological innovation are people, making engineers thetrue forcebehind Israel’shigh-tech industry. Inorder for the country to maintain its international status, grow its economy and increase exports, we need engineers who will develop life-changing, life-saving technologies. There is an estimated shortage of 13,000 engineers and software developers in the Israeli high-tech industry. This gap has been defined by the government as themain barrier for development in the high-tech sector, with potential consequences on Israel's national resilience and international status as “The Start-Up Nation.” Afeka’s unique approach to engineering educationhas resulted in a 50% increase of our student body over the past five years, as well as a sharp increase in the number of applicants. The construction of a new campus in the south-east district of Tel Aviv will allow us to further increase the number of new engineers by an additional 50% - yielding 1000 new engineers entering the technologyworkforce on a yearly basis. Thiswill contribute to solving the national economy’s pressing challenges, while providing a platformfor the best engineering education available in Israel – amodern campuswith innovative learning spaces and activities that encourage creativity and innovation, cutting-edge teaching laboratories and applied research centers.
